Heritage Yellow Jambhala 01

THE HERITAGE · WHY THIS BATCH IS DIFFERENT

From the first 33 pieces to the final 7 preserved after a 49-day ritual period.

33ORIGINAL PIECES
49RITUAL DAYS
7PRESERVED

HC is TIBETAN SHAMBHALA’s earliest tsa-tsa group. The first batch was made by local monks and long-term practitioners following traditional ritual practice. The clay preparation included traditional additions such as Tibetan medicinal ingredients, nectar pills and saffron, while mantra recitation and prayer accompanied the making. After completion, the pieces were placed in a shrine or practice space for continued recitation and blessing. Of the original 33, only 7 pieces that remained through the full 49-day ritual period entered the HC collection. This object therefore carries not only handwork, but the history of a particular batch, place and period of practice.

THE FIGURE · ICONOGRAPHY

Yellow Jambhala

Yellow Jambhala is one of the principal Jambhala forms in Tibetan Buddhist tradition. He is traditionally associated with wealth, resources and abundance, and is often represented with a regal presence and a jewel-producing mongoose. These symbols belong to a Buddhist religious context: they speak to conditions of sufficiency and support rather than promising financial gain.

Abundance

Traditionally associated with resources, sufficiency and material support.

Jewel-bearing mongoose

A characteristic Jambhala attribute linked with treasure and plenty.

Regal presence

His richly adorned appearance expresses fullness and status.

Support for practice

Wealth imagery can be understood as the conditions that allow life and practice to continue with greater stability.

CULTURAL BACKGROUND

Yellow Jambhala in context

Jambhala appears in several forms across Himalayan Buddhism, and the yellow form became especially widespread in Tibetan art. Although styles vary, recurring attributes make the figure immediately recognisable: a compact, regal body, treasure imagery and the mongoose associated with jewels. The importance of Yellow Jambhala is therefore not simply that he is a “wealth god,” but that Buddhist art uses the language of abundance to express the value of having sufficient resources and fewer material obstacles. In a small tsa-tsa, this larger tradition is condensed into an object intended for close, personal viewing.

THE MAKING · PROCESS

How this piece was completed

The tsa-tsa body was hand-pressed from local Shiqu clay using a traditional image mould, naturally dried and hand-painted by a monk. The recorded artisan is Sonam of the Shiqu workshop. The outer silver case was made separately by a factory. Series planning, colour direction and the customised casing were developed under the brand’s direction in collaboration with the makers. No silver purity is claimed.
