THE OBJECT · ABOUT THIS PIECE

Yellow Jambhala · ES-LP-YJ-01

An ES Collection Yellow Jambhala piece made from a machine-moulded base and finished individually by hand. After production, the piece was included in a large-scale Buddhist prayer ceremony together with other devotional objects, adding a genuine religious context without turning the object into a supernatural promise.

THE PROCESS · WHY THIS PIECE IS DIFFERENT

Machine-moulded, hand-painted, then included in a large prayer ceremony.

ES pieces begin with a machine-moulded form, providing a more consistent base structure. Colour and visible details are then finished by hand by workshop artisans or workers. After completion, the pieces are included together with other devotional objects during a large-scale Buddhist prayer ceremony, where they remain present for collective prayers and blessing rites. This series therefore combines repeatable production with a real layer of hand finishing and religious context.

THE FIGURE · ICONOGRAPHY

Yellow Jambhala

Yellow Jambhala is one of the best-known Jambhala forms in Tibetan Buddhist art. He is traditionally associated with wealth, abundance and the conditions of material sufficiency. His imagery often includes a regal appearance and a jewel-bearing mongoose, placing treasure and resources within a specifically Buddhist visual tradition rather than a promise of financial gain.

Abundance

Traditionally associated with sufficient resources and material support.

Jewel-bearing mongoose

A characteristic Jambhala attribute linked with treasure imagery.

Regal presence

Ornament and posture give the figure a king-like visual identity.

Material sufficiency

Resources are understood as conditions that can support a stable and meaningful life.

CULTURAL BACKGROUND

Yellow Jambhala in context

Yellow Jambhala belongs to a broader family of Jambhala manifestations found across Himalayan Buddhism. Over centuries, artists retained the deity’s recognisable treasure imagery while changing scale, style and medium. The figure is therefore more than a decorative “money god”: his visual language places abundance and sufficient resources inside a Buddhist religious context.
